12 Grubenberg – Bäder

Stories about borders and ridges

"An enormous rock face rises above Ablendsch, a very remote place with no trees and no green vegetation: one of my most terrible and threatening experiences!" The above description of the Gastlosen mountain range dates back to 1814. They now no longer live up to their daunting reputation and have long been a Mecca for climbers and hikers. These limestone crags are the landmark of the small mountain village of Abländschen, which belongs to the local authority of Saanen. After descending down to the valley floor, the trail continues along the cantonal border to Jaun Pass. We haven't quite reached our destination yet. The trail continues through the hilly Alpine landscape to Alp Grosser Bäder. Here we will enjoy a well-earned meringue made using a solar oven.
